Z floor mats

8 posts in this topic

I've got a question regarding the Z floor mats (the standard Z-branded ones that the dealer chucked in with my 370Z).

The mats are secured by 2 little peg type protrusions just in front of the driver's seat - holes in the mats sit over these pegs and hold the mats in place that way.  A couple of times now, though, I've had the driver's side mat actually slip off those pegs.  While this isn't a major issue, there is a safety risk there (especially if it happens and causes the mat to move under my feet at an inconvenient moment).

I'm just wondering if there's supposed to be anything extra securing these mats?  My previous car (Mazda 3 SP23) had mats which also fit over a little peg near the driver's seat, but there was also a little pin/clip type thing which would slide through a hole in the peg, preventing the mat from pulling itself up off the peg.  Are the Z floor mats supposed to have something similar to hold them in place?  I asked at the dealer and they told me no, that's just the way they are - the holes go over the pegs but that's it in terms of holding the mats in place.

Maybe your ones are faulty, my old ones from the dealer stayed snug and secure the entire time I had them. Are your pegs covered by your seat when you are driving (I'm average height so mine was covered by the seat)?

Just had a look at mine again, only just covered by the seat but it wouldn't stop it in any case.

Mazda have really gotten their mat design down pat. Even the mats in the Mazda2 has a far superior design. The material is much more durable and plush, the backing has heaps of rubber pointy studs, they're almost twice as thick and the posts plus the eyelet that it goes thru are both metal. With all due respect, come on Nissan.. we arent driving base model Micras

My drivers mat, won't stay in place either. It hasn't from the day I took delivery. I have complained to the dealer several times and they supposedly fix it.... It's obvious to me that the anchors are in the wrong position (to close together) which I've told them. But their fix seems to be just place the mat onto the hooks which stays in place until you drive it. Being a manual, it doesn't take long to move (a couple of gear changes). I'll try again when the car goes back this week

i've got a heavy rubber mat over mine - good for wet weather & i have a habit of wearing holes into carpet with my right foot. i think the rubber mat weighs the Z mat down :) i'm also using a 7AT mat in my car.. fits perfectly & i honestly dont know why they make a 6MT version

I have the same issue: 370Z, delivered with factory mats - they slide off the 'pegs'.

My old Civic had positive twist-type lugs which never released the mat until you wanted to.  Don't know why Nissan can't manage it......

To fix I'm going to drill through each peg at the top and use split pins to retain.

Hey mate,  I've got the Z1 CAI installed, not much difference. I got my car tuned with the CAI and exhaust installed so not sure about the gains from the CAI. The induction noise is nice though lol
    • Which LSD to buy, OS Giken,Wavetrac,Nismo or Cusco

Hey mate, I dont know if this is too late or not but I've got the Nismo 1.5 way diff in my z34. It definitely feels way better then the stock LSD, it also has quick adjustment on the lock percentage which is nice but i leave it on the lowest amount (60%).  It clunks on 3 point turns but I'm sure all of them do. I can't compare it to any other diff though, but happy with this one.

hey everyone, i was driving along and my roof came open so i pulled over and tried to close it but there is a 50mm gap and it wont come down any further. All motors work fine, straps are all good, just wondering if there is any way of adjusting the roof as it is sitting a bit too far forward to begin with and needed a clip to keep it locked in. I havnt been to a dealership yet as i would like to suss it out on my own first as i am mechanically minded. Anyone had this same issue and how much was it to fix??? Im in W.A
