Stock Nissan 350z Exhaust. 2.5” vs 3”?

I currently have a N/A 03 Track 350z and eventually want to get it dyno tuned after I’ve gotten all the supporting mods for it done. I plan on keeping it N/A as from what I’ve read you can’t turbo a stock 350z engine without it blowing up after around 15,000 kms as the stock engine can’t handle the extra boost. I’m currently doing the exhaust on it and need advice on what to do next. I currently have a 3” stainless steel mid and single exit pipe and 2.5” resonated test pipes. I’ve found some really good headers but they are 3” piping and I can get a custom 3” y-pipe made up or buy a 2.5” y-pipe. I’ve tried reading online and the opinions on the 2.5” or 3” exhaust is very in the middle. Do you guys think a stock 350z would have the back pressure to support a 3” exhaust all the way through or would it lose power? So basically should I get 3” headers and y-pipe or get 2.5” and keep the 3” mid pipe and single exit?

Hey Carlo,

For the exhaust it really comes down to personal preference. My wife and I used to have a 2003 Track 350Z and we found the 2.5" was perfect. Let the Z breathe so much better but also minimised drone in the exhaust. This was important as we did long highway drives regularly.

The 3" I have heard, from some members over the years, is slightly too big as there is not enough backpressure for the stock engine. Again just feedback I have heard, not actually done myself.

Even for out 370Z, we stuck with the 2.5".

    • help!!! my brake squealing like crazy ?? (new brake pad)

I've got a similar issue.  I've taken off every wheel and checked the pads to make sure they're still 'drive-able' and theyre all fine. However the brakes squeal something cruel when I'm slowing down. They're fine on the first bit of pressure and when the pedal's almost entirely pressed in but in the mid range of the pedal the brakes squeal so very very loud... Has anyone found any fixes or hints as to what it is?

So this thread didnt go anywhere at all but in case this helps out anyone in the future. The problem can basically be explained as an aftermarket exhaust kit. The sensors didn't like the emissions and intake numbers that they were reading because the exhaust wasn't stock. All I did to it was put a few spacers on the sensors and the light has stayed off since.   Hope this helps

Hi all, Pleased to say that i have purchased a Grey 2010 370z. Being that it has been my dream car going way back. I cannot be any more satisfied and stoked right now. My first mod, will obviously be getting the windows tints done. After that either wheels or exhaust... How do you guys reckon i should go about it?
